John grew up on an Iowa farm near Council Bluffs, and attended Iowa State University where he obtained a B.S in Civil Engineering and a MS in Geotechnical Engineering. After college he served in the US Army Engineer Regiment with assignments in Europe and the Mid East retiring from the Army Reserves in 2001 as a Lt Colonel. After working several years as a Senior Project Engineer for Exxon in Houston, he and his family moved back to the Midwest where he began his engineering consulting career with Terracon. He served as President of Terracon Environmental eventually growing the firm to more than 350 professionals when he retired in 1999. After several years as the president of his own management consulting firm, he joined Aquaterra Environmental Solutions in 2003 as a senior technical and management consultant. John now serves the firm as its Chief Engineer and Advisor to the Board of Directors. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He is a Master Level, Certified Hazardous Material Manager, and a professional engineer licensed in 10 states, including Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. He is active in several professional organizations including American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM), Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), NICE, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
