The Town of Cicero, Illinois completed the development of a new Public Works facility in 2010 at an approximate 4.5-acre site and 75,000 square feet former manufacturing building complex. Aquaterra completed an evaluation of the original manufacturing facility complex to assess its rehabilitation potential. Based on the findings of the evaluation, a new Public Works facility and complex design was completed to modify/renovate the building to include offices, vehicle maintenance, electric department, rodent abatement department, paint and sign shop and employee rest area and locker rooms. Public access areas were incorporated to allow the Town’s citizens to access the facility when needed. The design included the following components:
- Selective demolition of 45,000 square feet of the former building.
- Completion of architectural improvements to the building interior and exterior to develop the facility as a new 30,000-square foot Public Works facility.
- New heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems replacing the aged and inefficient systems.
- New electrical distribution network incorporating the existing electric main service.
- New vehicle maintenance area and interior and exterior wash pads.
- New parking lot and traffic routing at the site including new entrances and exits to Laramie Avenue and access to the new salt dome and fueling stations.
- New potable water lines.
- New sanitary and storm sewers.
The Public Works facility construction was completed at the end of 2010.
